PiGrrl2 mod: Rotated Pi - HDMI out
thingiverse
This is Adafruit's PiGrrl2, an original design by the Ruiz Brothers with a key modification: exposing the RaspberryPi's HDMI port-side. Of the three available case versions on the adafruit page, this one features a snap design along the circumference of its two parts, eliminating the need for screws to secure the top and bottom together. The ports and screen are well-aligned, with the active screen area fully exposed and centered. However, the dimensions are slightly too tight, requiring some sanding on the inside to accommodate the screen ribbon during assembly. My initial design plan placed the battery behind the gamepad PCB, but this left no room for the buttons. As a result, they're currently blue-tacked inside the case. The print quality was handled by professionals, yet minor ABS warping led to a useless snap design along the perimeter of the pieces. I ultimately glued the case together. Adafruit recommends using PLA instead of ABS, but the printers' experts convinced me that ABS would be better – and here we are. A "PiGrrl 2" engraving is prominent on the top side, while an attempt to attribute the design to the Ruiz Brothers and the mod to myself on the bottom ended in a smudge due to fine print quality. Given my lack of a 3D printer, redoing the engravings would be too costly for this project. The included .FCStd files are FreeCad files, so feel free to pick up where I left off and continue the mod as you see fit.
