Piggy bank (laser-cut and laser-engraved)

Piggy bank (laser-cut and laser-engraved)

I created custom boxes that serve as a piggy bank for kids. The design originates from boxes.py (source code here), generated using the command scripts/boxes closedbox --thickness=2.85 --output=test.svg --format=svg --x=70 --y=60 --h=65 --burn=0.115. I experimented with various settings on my laser cutter to achieve a snug fit, and this burn value worked perfectly. The pictures show one bedbolt per edge. I modified certain parameters in the code that couldn't be adjusted through the command-line interface, such as the length of the bedbolt screw and the width of the bedbolt nut. You can access and use the code responsible for these results here. I also attempted using two bedbolts instead of one, but the faces of the box broke easily due to the proximity of the holes for the shaft of the bedbolt. The kids chose the text and color for each face, resulting in this vibrant appearance. Note: In this design, 1 pixel does not equal 1 mm, as the size is controlled by boxes.py.
