A pigeon-hole message-box, often called a cubbyhole or mailbox, is an internal mail system utilized in organizations, workplaces, and educational institutions for communication purposes. It involves placing documents and messages in individuals' assigned slots for collection; responses can be submitted by inserting them into the sender's pigeon-hole. In addition to mail, cubbies may also function as storage spaces for items like keys, business cards, and lunch boxes. Large organizations use mailboxes to distribute mail from the postroom to departmental pigeonholes. Pigeon-holes serve another purpose by facilitating the submission of complaints and suggestions forms, allowing students to express their dissatisfaction with services provided while suggesting ways for improvement. Suggestion boxes are devices that encourage additional comments, questions, and requests from users. The internal routing of comments within a university can provide an accurate assessment of student care quality to those without direct contact with the students. Posting responses to received suggestions on physical or virtual bulletin boards can also enhance a department's image and improve teacher-student relationships.
