Pig - Version4 - Matryoshka
prusaprinters

This "nesting pigs" are Version 4 of four pig prints as follows:

V1 : plain pig

V2 : piggy bank #1 with slot only

V3 : piggy bank #2 with slot and bottom opening

V4 : Matryoshka pig(s)

All versions use the same basic design, with some significant variations. Since there are so many different prints involved, with differing print requirements I thought it best to provide the prints as four separate entries.

Version4 is the Matryoshka version - named after the Russian nesting dolls. The different pig sizes are made by scaling up or down the STL file(s) (two different 3D CAD and related STL files were required for all of the different sizes, as simply scaling down one size did not give good results). There are eight pigs in all, each one fits inside the next larger size.

Note: To open up the two halves, simply gives the sides a little squeeze along the join line and they should pop open.

The sizes I used here were determined by a combination of measuring and experimentation, but other sizes are likely possible. I used different colors of PLA for the different sizes just to make it more interesting.

The OnShape 3D CAD files for this are here:

https://cad.onshape.com/documents/4b18587141f46c17c7caaeb8/w/71873948501e318dfeaa530c/e/f8a92f44013a2b170ed90852

Print instructions

Print in PLA with the 3mf files provided. Otherwise:

The bottom halves can be printed "feet down" with supports under the chin. The top halves should be printed with the bottom side oriented flat to the build plate.

5% rectilinear infill

perimeters = 3

The "2b" versions should be used for sizes 50% scale and larger. Use the "3c" versions for sizes under 50% scale.

I found that 20% scale was the practical limit for the smallest size when using a 0.4mm nozzle.

Here are the scale sizes I used:

92%

76%

62%

50%

40%

30%

20%

15%

For the 15% size I used a "solid" pig (that is, not split into halves). I paused the print halfway through to add a couple of small steel balls to give it an interesting rattle.

I am not entirely happy with the way the underside of the chin parts printed - there is room for improvement there.
