myminifactory
This metacarpal bone of a pig was discovered archaeologically in a section for enslaved workers at the Oak Hill plantation site (44PY440). It was unearthed on November 15, 2015, from Room 2, Test Unit 2, Layer C, Feature 1 during an excavation. The bone was then scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3-D scanner to capture its precise dimensions. Dr. Elizabeth Moore identified the artifact. A detailed report on this discovery can be found in "Faunal Remains from 44PY0440: The Oak Hill Site" by Elizabeth A. Moore, submitted to Hurt & Proffitt and the Threatened Sites Committee of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources in 2017.
