Pierre Puget at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
This marble sculpture by Francois-Nicolas Delaistre (Paris 1746- Paris 1836) showcases Pierre Puget; the bust was commissioned to adorn the rooms of the Louvre alongside other sculptures highlighting prominent figures in art. Pierre Puget, a French painter, sculptor, architect and engineer, was born in Marseille on October 16, 1620. By the age of fourteen, he had carved the ornaments of galleys built in his native city's shipyards, and at sixteen, he was entrusted with decorating and constructing a ship. Soon after, he traveled to Italy on foot, where he was warmly received by Pietro da Cortona in Rome, who took him into his studio and employed him on the ceilings of Palazzo Barberini and those of Palazzo Pitti in Florence.
