This stunning marble sculpture by Francois-Nicolas Delaistre, a master artist from Paris born in 1746, was crafted between 1746 and 1836 to honor Pierre Puget's remarkable legacy. Commissioned to adorn the grand rooms of the Louvre, this majestic bust joins other breathtaking works of art that celebrate legendary figures in history. Pierre Puget, a highly skilled painter, sculptor, architect, and engineer from Marseille, left an indelible mark on the world of art. Born on October 16, 1620, he began his remarkable journey at just fourteen years old when he skillfully carved intricate ornaments for the galleys built in his hometown's shipyards. Two years later, Puget was entrusted with designing and constructing a magnificent ship. Before long, this talented young artist embarked on an incredible journey to Italy, where he walked for miles before arriving in Rome. There, he gained the admiration of renowned artist Pietro da Cortona, who warmly welcomed him into his studio and assigned him to work on the breathtaking ceilings of Palazzo Barberini and Palazzo Pitti at Florence.
