Pierced Hemisphere

Pierced Hemisphere

myminifactory

This work stands out as one of the few pieces created by Hepworth using a technique called 'Direct Carving', first pioneered by French artist Constantin Brancusi. The method, devoid of models or sculptural maquettes prior to production, allows the final form of the sculpture to emerge through the act of carving the material itself. This technique highlights the inherent properties of the materials used. Hepworth once stated: 'The closed form, such as the oval, spherical, or pierced form (sometimes incorporating color) … translates for me the association and meaning of gesture in landscape' (Hepworth 1971). This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. Through this project, we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source community effort, where anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to find out how they can assist.
