Ancient Greeks in the Eastern Mediterranean have been familiar with this type of vessel shaped like a foot since the early 6th century BC, although earlier examples can be found in previous periods. The location and context of the discovery suggest that it was used for ritual purposes, likely placed in the area surrounding the Alba Tower sanctuary alongside other offerings.
