PID control box
thingiverse
The control box contains a PID controller, Fotek Solid State Relay (SSR), round toggle switch and computer power cord connector in the back of the case. Print the two parts separately to prevent delamination from occurring. The temperature controller is attached to the filament extruder. Instructions Separate print the two components to avoid delamination problems altogether. Double-check that you are checking the dimensions of the PID face mount in millimeters because manufactures have variances ranging between 2-5 mm. The standard cheap Fotek Solid State Relay (SSR) works fine with the relay mount but be aware the SSR shown is not a standard type however has same hole spacing as it should. The total cost for all components should amount to approximately sixty dollars ($60) in order to assemble the PID, SSR and toggle switch. However if you opt to source the toggle from Radioshack or a local hobby store you'll be able to obtain one more conveniently and efficiently. On another note the plug off the back of a dead computer power supply is quite practical for moving the control box around easily. PID and SSR are readily available online at competitive prices as they are generally cheaper. However take note that your SSR shouldn't be greater than twenty amps so it does not short-circuit or get destroyed instantly. Disclaimer/Warning For safety reasons, a resistor rating of 100 to fifty ohms is recommended by most professionals. V = IR... which means that with a 120-Volt AC / 6-ohm configuration the total current will be approximately twenty amps. Nonetheless if you decide use nichrome for your resistive material then things might just turn south and quickly in flames for lack of a better phrase
