Picture Relief Map
thingiverse
A lithopane, or inverse relief map, is depicted in the picture relief map named "aer_1948.stl." The fortran program designed for creating relief maps can be easily modified to produce lithopanes; it takes a grayscale negative raw format image and outputs an openSCAD program. Once executed, the openSCAD program generates the lithopane. The source code and input file are provided. Makerbot offers a user-friendly lithopane tool that transforms any photograph into a lithopane (thing:74322). To print the lithopane, place it directly on the build platform using two shells and 100% infill of natural ABS. The input file comes from Adobe Photoshop, where you can adjust contrast, clip the desired part, convert to grayscale, and invert for a raw photo file without headers. The "aer_1948.raw" data file contains 220 rows and 200 columns, viewable and invertible in Adobe Photoshop.
