### Why: My artwork was crooked on my wall I wanted to hang some small art pieces that were cut from wood. The artists were good at cutting these, but did not think enough about the practicality of hanging them straight. These artists (or their assistants) just marked the center and nailed on a sawtooth hanger. Since the carvings are not symmetrical, they are not balanced left to right. In no time at all, the art was crooked. I started to devise methods to make it easier to find the balance point and move the sawtooth hanger, but using a French cleat seemed much quicker and easier. It also seems like it will lead to a "more permanent level" since it does not rely on precise measurement and installation like a perfectly centered sawtooth hanger would require. ### What: A little French cleat I created a French cleat that makes it easy to keep my artwork level. The cleat is printed twice with one cleat attached to the art and an identical cleat (rotated 180 degrees) attached to the wall. ### Result: Since the art is "hanging on a ledge" instead of "hanging on a point", the cleat can be centered on the art and it will stay level even when the artwork is significantly "unbalanced".
