A groundbreaking discovery has been made at an ancient church site in Dingwall, Scotland's rugged Highlands. A previously unknown Pictish stone, carved around 1200 years ago, has come to light. Experts hail this find as a national treasure, of immense historical significance. Measuring 1.5 meters by 0.6 meters by 0.2 meters in size, the stone was originally believed to have stood tall at an astonishing 2.4 meters high. Unfortunately, it is now broken, but its importance remains unchanged. This rare find will bring the number of complete or near-complete Pictish cross-slabs known worldwide to approximately 50. And for the first time in many years, a new one has been discovered on Scotland's mainland. Photographs by Anne MacInnes and Karen Kennedy capture this incredible moment in history.
