Pico de Orizaba soars as a towering stratovolcano, Mexico's highest mountain and North America's third, eclipsed only by the peaks of Mount McKinley in the United States and Mount Logan in Canada. Standing proud at 5,636 meters (18,491 ft) above sea level on the eastern flank of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, it forms a majestic boundary between Veracruz and Puebla states. Although currently dormant, with its last fiery display dating back to the 19th century, this mountain is far from extinct, boasting an impressive reputation as one of the world's most iconic volcanoes.
