Pickup Magnet Pressing Jig (Jazz Bass)
thingiverse
Here are some jigs I made for pressing magnets and flatwork when making guitar pickups. You have 3 files. Jazz Bass Spacer: Print 2 of these. This is made specifically for Jazz Bass pickups using .780 magnets. Different pickups will have different needs to feel free to remix as needed. Place these between the flatwork after the magnets have been pressed into the bottom piece. This will limit how far your top flatwork can come down making sure it's even. Jazz Bass Top Jig: After you have the top flatwork started place this piece on top with the groove over the magnets. Make sure your spacers are in place and then use your arbor press/drill press to press on top. This should evenly press the flatwork down without warping any side, and the spacers will stop the top flatwork in the correct space. You can also use a hammer with this piece and it works pretty well, just be careful with the hammer...... Because this piece will be getting some heavy pressure, make sure you print this with as close to 100% infill as possible. 0187 Magnet Placing Jig: This piece is to help place the magnets into the bottom flatwork. Place the magnet in the hole and then use your press to press down into the flatwork. This jig will help make sure your magnet goes in perpendicular (it's a nightmare to put the top flatwork on if your magnets aren't all straight up and down). This piece you may need to widen a teensy bit with a drill bit or a reamer. But test your magnet in it. If it's off, it's not off by much. I made these because I had a real hard time finding any jigs online to print. Places like ToneKraft have really nice jigs you can buy and if you're making pickups professionally I would advise something like that. But for hobbyists and people just learning I think these are great to start. Please feel free to remix any and all of this and share however you see fit.
