Pickles Reef Totten Beacon Base
sketchfab
Totten Beacons were 19th century navigational aids placed along Florida's Reef, providing crucial guidance for mariners. These iron posts stood over 30 feet tall in the water, each bearing a distinctive letter and color scheme to identify its precise location along the extensive reef-line. This model reveals the submerged base of the Pickles Reef beacon, secured by three shorter support-points that once stabilized it. A large iron disc on top might have aided installers in rotating and drilling the shaft into the seafloor. The Pickles Reef beacon's main shaft was severely bent due to some unknown impact.
