Piano key repair
thingiverse
Initially, I thought using a 3D printer to fix a damaged black key on an old piano was absurd; however, upon reflection, it was an ideal application of MakerBot technology. The piano's value didn't justify the cost of dismantling it for a replacement key, but its tone was worth preserving. To repair the key, I created a replacement part using Rhino3D v4.0 based on measurements from adjacent keys, saved it as an .stl file, and printed it in black ABS. After a 15-second acetone dip and a day of drying, I glued the part to the wood with Pro Bond Poly Glue at the sheared point, allowing six hours for the adhesive to set before playing the piano again.
