Piano Key Braille
pinshape
I was discussing piano instruction with an instructor who had been approached to teach a blind student, and she shared her concerns about the challenges involved in such a venture. The solution to most of these issues lies in labeling the keys, which this design effectively accomplishes. Each component has three distinct parts: the base, the octave (represented by files O1-O7), and the key (designated by files K-A-G). The O and K files feature braille that correspond to specific musical notations. To adhere to standard braille formatting, the O and K files must be attached to the base with their respective braille markings centered. When assembled, this design fits seamlessly between most modern piano keys, dating back to 1900 or later.
