Photo Base Plate
thingiverse
This is a compact baseplate designed to pair seamlessly with mini camera ball heads such as this one. The design is remarkably simple, boasting a 100mm base and 20mm rise, while the recessed hole expertly conceals the screw head from view. The depth of the hole is carefully calibrated to accommodate a 1/4-20 screw precisely 1/2" in length, ensuring a secure fit with the ball head. This versatile plate proves incredibly useful in a wide range of applications beyond its primary purpose. In the field, I utilize one for backlights by coupling it with a speedlight and pocket wizards. When deciding to do this, you have two options: invest in an expensive mount featuring a pre-made connector or opt for a more affordable alternative, such as this cheaper mount, which can be easily modified by cutting off the end and soldering on a 1/8" plug. This plate also comes into play when working with low-to-the-ground or tabletop applications involving GoPro's or point-and-shoot cameras. While it may prove slightly too small for extended DSLR use, it would likely suffice for short periods of time. The printing process is remarkably straightforward, requiring only minimal support to ensure the recessed hole prints cleanly and without issues.
