Phone with wallet case car cup holder Nexus 5x
thingiverse
This is a case I've designed to hold my phone in the car without having to remove it from its wallet case. It fits into a cupholder and holds the phone securely with its case folded behind. The design accommodates a Nexus 5x with a Mercury Goospery wallet case, but may also work for other phones, given that the slot is 16mm x 90mm. The whole screen remains accessible on the Nexus 5x. Additionally, there's a central hole in the bottom for charging with a USB C charger and one at the side for headphones. I've added an alternative version without holes in the cup part, but it will be slower to print. I've also shared the Tinkercad files. The link below is to a plug that holds my USB-C cable in place within the mount, eliminating the need for fiddling with plugging it in. However, this requires a tiny bit of adjustment and may not fit other USB cables. The cup part measures 75mm in diameter, making it a perfect fit for the pop-out cupholder on a Mitsubishi Delica D:5, but might be too large for some cupholders, excluding the centre console holes. My previous prototype was 70mm, which turned out to be slightly loose but fitted all the holders. I printed this case without support in PLA and used 20% infill, but suspect it makes little difference given the thin design. I've included fillets to minimize bridging, though I forgot about the triangular holes near the top - still, my Anet A8 managed to print it out okay. This is my first attempt at creating something for 3D printing, although this is actually the second prototype. It seems to work fairly well, but no doubt there's room for improvement.
