Original version only worked for landscape mode on most phones (i guess lighter phones could be used on portrait mode too) but I wanted both, this works at least for my phone and my mom's (who will be using this the most) The opening there is to take advantage of that sweet acoustic bouncing box that gets created when the phone is on portrait mode, in hopes to amplify or at least not dampen sound
