Phone Holder for NuVI mount
thingiverse
My wife has a permanent mount for her nüvi GPS receiver in her car and asked me if I could come up with a way to use her cellphone for navigation that used the existing mount. She's a big fan of Waze, so she was looking for something that would work seamlessly with her phone. I came up with a two-part solution. One part connects to a nüvi disk mount and the other holds the phone in place. The two parts screw together securely, making it easy to create new variations on this design. By using a modular approach, I was able to come up with a holder that could be easily adapted for different phones or devices. To print out the holder, you'll need a Prusa i3 MK2 printer set up with the following settings: no rafts, no supports, and a resolution of 0.200mm. A 20% infill will provide a good balance between strength and weight. Once printed, the two parts are joined by four 6-32x.375" screws and four 6-32 nuts. This design allows for easy customization, so if you just want to print out the back part for nüvi compatibility or the front part for Galaxy S5 compatibility, that's perfectly fine. I designed this holder specifically for a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone with a thin case, but it may work with other mobile devices and cases as well. Just keep in mind that your mileage may vary, so be sure to test it out before hitting the road.
