Phone Holder for CD Slot

Phone Holder for CD Slot

Designed in TinkerCAD, so mostly very simple shapes combined. Designed to fit the CD slot of a 2013 Mazda 3 Sedan. The ball is meant to interface with any number of off-the-shelf phone holders; I had a couple that I had purchased, but didn't like the way they interfaced with the car. Other car holders I found on Thingiverse had a plastic extension that would warp in the sun; this design overcomes that problem by removing the plastic from the extension, replacing it with a metal bolt. To this I added a short bolt, two nuts, and one nut with nylon insert. I just measured the nuts and they measured very close to 5.5 mm, so it is likely that the bolt is a 5 mm bolt. Sorry I don't remember what I purchased. I put the head of the bolt into the sphere and pushed it into position. I then dripped super glue into it to secure it in place; basically potted it into place. The nylon nut goes embedded in the larger plastic piece, and the two nuts go on the bolt between the sphere and the larger plastic piece. I tightened the nuts down onto the plastic part, all in an effort to keep the bolt from rotating when I didn't want it to. If I had it to to again, I might add some lock-tite to the situation, so the bolt could not rotate in the nuts. After that, insert the assembly into the CD slot, add the off-the shelf phone holder of your preference to the ball, and enjoy. I've been using this for about a year, in South Carolina, and every now and again I have to rotate the phone holder around to get it to tighten up a bit as the plastic relaxes. I printed it in PLA, but more temp resistant materials would probably be even better.
