Phone dock for larger phones (S4/S5)
thingiverse
So I wanted to show off my printer's capabilities and save a bit of money in the process for Christmas presents. I designed a phone holder for my dad that can be used with his new S4 in or out of a case while parked in his truck. One limitation is that I repurposed an old dock for a Droid Razr, which was useful but somewhat limited me in terms of options. The stem and suction cup part had to come from the existing dock because it works perfectly. To be flexible, the dock's adjustable feature should fit most phone sizes, allowing the back piece to accept #8 nuts for holding down adjustable sliding parts securely once determined. Also worth mentioning is a separate part I designed specifically around the ball stem component from the old Droid Razr dock. It consists of an odd circular shape with a screw on top where you can tighten it against the stem for security, likely rendering it useless to others if they try using this design alone since their phones may require alternative approaches like creating an entirely separate part. For assembly and printing on my Rep 2 printer, one necessary item is a part labeled "black PLA." For best results, ensure you set your infill at 100%. Additionally, consider adding #8 nuts along with some wing screws to the model; a little rubber padding should be placed underneath where the cell phone will sit to prevent any slippage or uneven contact during use. If anyone requests modifications to eliminate reliance on the specific parts I originally used (the stem and suction cup), it's possible I can redesign those pieces without necessarily having them available.
