Phone Charger Plug Cover Child Proof Protector
thingiverse
I recently received a video link from a YouTube channel titled "Human." The video features my niece learning how to walk and crawl around, which made me think about safety precautions I could take to prevent her from putting things in her mouth. My mother was worried that my niece might put one of the phone charger cables in her mouth, so she asked if I could come up with a solution. She wanted something that would stay on the cable and couldn't get lost. I wasn't sure about the dangers of putting the plug in her mouth, but it sounded like an interesting design challenge. I came up with a cover that slides onto the charger cable, and a small ball that clamps onto the end of the cable near the phone plug. When you're done charging, you simply slide the cover over the end and the ball snaps into place, holding the plug inside. To release it, you squeeze the sides of the cover and push the cable out. I added some holes to the ball portion that attaches to the cord on February 9th at the suggestion of a member from the 3D Printing Useful Things Facebook group. This should help eliminate the possible choking hazard for the ball when not in the cover, since it's no longer solid.
