The rubber boot near the brush head, which protects the mechanical / electrical components, torn due to use. This happened over several years due to chaining toothbrush heads. Over time water worked its way down past the torn boot and shaft causing the weight that vibrates the toothbrush to corroded in place. This prevented the toothbrush from operating eventually. This small flange replace the torn rubber boot and helps prevent future water damage.
