These are special cups made specifically for the Philips SHP9500 headphones, designed to convert them from open to closed headphones at will! While the sound signature does change a bit, and the soundstage will shrink significantly - they still sound great - and isolation is greatly improved. To dampen my cups I employed a specific process: First, I coated / painted the inside of the cup with plasti-dip to seal any sound leaks. Then I added a layer of sound-deadening foam at the bottom, covered it with a thin layer of cotton, about 1-2 pulled apart cotton balls should be enough. Next, I cut out and glued a layer of felt around the outside of each cup for added protection and durability. For the sake of experimentation, I placed a small piece of electrical tape (about 5-10mm^2) as a treble reflector inside the middle of the felt before gluing it in place. Finally, I attached the retention rings to the outer rings of the headphone cups using my preferred method - note that attempting to apply or use this modification may cause damage to your headphones, and you assume full responsibility. Here are the Print Settings I used: Rafts: Don't worry about it Supports: Yes Resolution: Set to 0.2-0.3 for optimal results Infill: Choose a density of 10-30% Notes: * Consider printing the retention rings with support material - it's optional, but might be helpful * Making the cups taller or larger will give you more space to add damping materials, but may increase their size and make them less aesthetically pleasing * These mods could be adapted to work on other open headphones as well * Another option is to make the retention ring taller, then use larger clips on the cups - this makes it easier to install and remove them, but also increases visibility After printing your custom cups and retention rings: Finish the cups by dampening them to your desired level [refer to my initial instructions] Attach the retention ring to the headphones as you prefer Insert the cups and twist them clockwise to lock into place
