The Philips Hue wireless dimmer seamlessly integrates with your existing light switches when you upgrade to Philips Hue lights by replacing traditional bulbs. However, a peculiar design choice has been made - the base of the dimmer is slightly narrower than standard European light switch dimensions. The typical width of these is 84x84 mm, accompanied by a hole width of 60 mm. If you simply remove the old switch and secure the dimmer with double-sided tape, unsightly marks from the previous 84 mm switch will become apparent, rendering this solution unacceptable. Another issue arises due to the dimmer's height exceeding 84mm, making standard electrical mount cover plates unusable as a base for attaching the Hue dimmer. This design aims to create a plate that can be securely fastened to a standard light switch mount using standard screws and serve as a flawless base for mounting the Hue dimmer. The most aesthetically pleasing results are achieved by utilizing the bottom of the print as the outer surface. However, it's essential to manually countersink the holes for the mounting screws with a small file or drill. The plate is available in two versions: one featuring just two central holes, suitable for electricians who mounted the switch holder conventionally; and another version boasting multiple holes that allow for flexible mounting options - rotating or adjusting to three different heights while completely covering up the old mount. For those interested, the original FreeCAD drawing as well as printable STL files are available for download. To ensure optimal print quality, it's recommended to use a high infill level of around 75%. Printing with coarse settings (0.3mm) and high speed is also acceptable since only the base of the print will be visible. Note: A cautionary tale is offered by the author who pushed their printer's limits too far when printing the multi-hole plate at maximum speed, resulting in uneven holes and subpar border quality.
