Philips Hue Dimmer Adapter Plate

The Philips Hue wireless dimmer replaces wired light switches used by ordinary bulbs when you replace these with Philips Hue lights. For some inexplicable reason, Philips designed the base of the dimmer slightly narrower than standard European light switch width. The "normal" width of these is 84x84 mm with a hole width of 60 mm. Removing existing light switches and fastening the dimmer using double-sided tape results in very visible marks from old 84 mm switches, which is completely unacceptable. Another problem is that the dimmer exceeds 84mm height, making standard electrical mount cover plates useless as bases for mounting the dimmer. This design addresses a plate that can be securely fastened to standard light switch mounts with standard screws and serves as a perfect base for attaching the Hue dimmer plate. The result looks very nice. Using the bottom of the print as an outer surface produces the best results, but manual countersinking of holes for mounting screws is required using a small file or drill. Two versions of the plate are available: one with just two central holes, suitable for standard switch holder installation; and another version featuring numerous holes that allow for switch rotation or mounting at any of three different heights while completely covering up the old mount. The original FreeCAD drawing as well as printable STL files are available for download. For best results, print with a high infill level, such as 75%. Otherwise, plates may bend in the middle when tightening down with mounting screws. Coarse settings (0.3mm) and high speed can be used since only the base of the print is visible. A picture showcases a multi-hole plate printed at maximum speed, pushing it too far resulted in uneven holes and subpar border quality.
