Pharaoh's Pholly

Pharaoh's Pholly

cults3d

I designed this puzzle decades ago when I was in high school, using poster board. This puzzle is based on the tetrahedron/octahedron tessellation of space. There are 12 pieces, that fit together to form a large octahedron. There are 7680 ways of doing this (not counting rotations or reflections) but it is tricky to find just one solution. The simple base will support the completed octahedron, but the original design had a larger hinged base that forms a square pyramid, which could close when the puzzle is completed, hence the puzzle's name. One solution is included in the .pdf file.
