PG35L Micro Extruder for Printrbot Simple Metal (E3D v6 and Ubis hotends)
thingiverse
I've experienced numerous stepper skipping problems with Printrbot's aluminum direct drive extruder on my Simple Metal frame, even when utilizing active cooling for the stepper motor and adjusting current pots in various settings. The K250VS Ultibots kit I initially worked with taught me about skip-free extruding using their PG35L-based micro extruder, so I re-designed that part to fit my Printrbot's bracket and Ubis hot end. However, upon realizing that uncooled Ubis hot ends are utterly unreliable, I opted for an E3D v6 instead. The upgrade significantly improved my printing experience, leading me to successfully test the E3Dv6 setup after initially switching from the original design due to stepper skipping with the aluminum extruder. To adapt this new extruder body to Printrbot's bracket and utilize the E3D hotend I found necessary modifications needed to be made. These involved adding bed mount spacers to prevent Z frame movement clashes below as well as creating a custom fan shroud, along with revising firmware to use temperature sensor 5 (a Semitec thermistor) in Marlin instead of 0 for improved accuracy. Important changes and requirements must also be observed: I've found that my previous Extruder v3 worked without issues but I have also added the updated IDler from MicroExtruder thing and few new features to the document to aid usage. For better hotend retention use a revised hotend with the socket as it has increased retention to secure heat on nozzle so temperature calibration should then need be reset in firmware using following code: `M302 R500 S245` And finally you'll need to update steps/mm and max feed rates: Steps/mm value to reach accurate settings - Use these numbers, if any change made. Steps Per MM: (default:120):E 850 or simply copy paste following in terminal using command. `M92 E810` Note: Always refer your manufacturer guide for correct and safest configuration prior making such changes to ensure that steps taken do not compromise performance of machine as per intended design by developers.
