Khatm Al Melaha is a historic site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It boasts one of the largest rock art collections in the UAE. Archaeologists have uncovered stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs and other features that indicate this site has been occupied from at least the early Holocene to the 19th century. Over 175 stones with petroglyphs were meticulously documented and nearly 400 motifs were identified. Each rock bearing a glyph was assigned an ID number and a GPS coordinate. In total, 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points (+/- 1cm) were captured in a single day. Reality Capture and DStretch technology came to the fore as experts painstakingly recorded every detail of this ancient site.
