A human figure, depicted with splayed toes and a hat or headdress, stands out among the ancient petroglyphs discovered at this site in Oman. Dated to the Neolithic period, specifically between the 5th-4th Millennium BCE, this artwork offers a glimpse into the lives of people who once inhabited this region [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)].\nLocated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE, Khatm Al Melaha is an impressive archaeological site that boasts one of the largest rock art collections in the country. The site also features stone houses, a shell midden, and stone tombs, all of which date back to various periods from the early Holocene to the 19th century.\nA thorough documentation of over 175 stones with petroglyphs was conducted, revealing nearly 400 distinct motifs. Each rock with a glyph was assigned an ID number and GPS coordinate, allowing for precise tracking and analysis. In just one day, a team managed to capture 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points with remarkable accuracy (+/- 1cm).\nAll the data was processed using advanced software, including Reality Capture and Substance Painter.
