Human Nature Unveiled: Petroglyph V4 Khatm Al Melaha Rocks Sharjah's Coast. Arabian Oryx (lower, with straight horns), Geometric Patterns (middle), and Mysterious Creature (above). Possibly Dating Back to the 5th-4th Millennium BCE [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of Oman's Al-Hajar Mountains]. Khatm Al Melaha stands as a breathtaking archaeological site, situated on the picturesque coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. This remarkable site boasts one of the largest collections of rock art in the UAE. In addition to these ancient petroglyphs, archaeologists have uncovered stone houses, shell middens, and intricately carved stone tombs, indicating human occupation spanning from at least the early Holocene era to the 19th century. A staggering number of rocks bearing petroglyphs were meticulously documented, yielding over 175 stones and close to 400 distinct motifs. Each rock with a glyph was carefully assigned an ID number and GPS coordinate. In a single day, teams conducted an impressive array of surveys: 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 precision GPS points (accurate within 1cm).
