Human: Natural Version with Paint, Petroglyph V23 Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. Syrian Wild Ass. Probably Neolithic or earlier. [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is a prominent archaeological site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It boasts one of the largest rock art collections in the UAE. Over 175 stones with petroglyphs were meticulously documented and nearly 400 distinct motifs were carefully identified. Each stone with a glyph was assigned a unique ID number and GPS coordinate for precise tracking. In total, an impressive array of data was collected on a single day: 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 highly accurate GPS points (within 1 centimeter). The intricate petroglyphs were skillfully analyzed using Radiance Scaling in Meshlab, materials lighting in Substance Painter, and by carefully adjusting conditions in Sketchfab. Some carvings remained invisible to the naked eye until viewed under specific conditions. Expert drawings were created only when a clear line could be identified using one of these advanced techniques. Reality Capture and Substance Painter played key roles in uncovering the secrets of Khatm Al Melaha's ancient rock art.
