Petroglyph V17 Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. A mysterious anthropomorphic figure is depicted alongside a tree-like design that remains unidentified. This enigmatic artwork likely dates back to the Neolithic era, spanning from the 5th-4th Millennium BCE [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is an extraordinary archaeological site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. This site boasts one of the largest collections of rock art in the UAE, with numerous stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs, and other features that indicate human presence from at least the early Holocene to the 19th century. A staggering number of over 175 stones bearing petroglyphs were meticulously documented, revealing nearly 400 distinct motifs. Each rock with a glyph was assigned an ID number and a precise GPS coordinate. In a single day, a remarkable array of data was collected: 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points with an accuracy of +/- 1cm were all captured using Reality Capture software.
