DStretch Version. Petroglyph V1 Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. Two sides of the same rock face feature contrasting depictions. Each panel showcases two Syrian Wild Asses and a Human Male, but in distinct styles suggesting multiple artists were involved. This likely dates back to the Neolithic period, specifically the 5th-4th Millennium BCE [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is a significant archaeological site on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It stands out as one of the largest rock art sites in the UAE. The site also boasts stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs and other features that indicate this area has been occupied since at least the early Holocene era to the 19th century. Over 175 stones with petroglyphs were documented and nearly 400 motifs were identified. Each rock with a glyph was assigned an ID number and a GPS coordinate. In total, 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points (+/- 1cm) were captured in a single day. All data was processed using Reality Capture software.
