[Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is a prominent archaeological site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. This site boasts one of the largest rock art collections in the UAE. Over 175 stones featuring petroglyphs were meticulously documented and nearly 400 distinct motifs were identified. Each stone with a glyph was assigned a unique ID number and a precise GPS coordinate. In a single day, an impressive amount of data was collected: 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 accurate GPS points (+/- 1cm). Petroglyphs were skillfully identified using advanced techniques such as Radiance Scaling in Meshlab, materials lighting in Substance Painter, and adjusting conditions on Sketchfab. Some intricate carvings remained invisible to the naked eye until these methods were employed. Detailed drawings were only created when a clear line could be discerned using one of these innovative techniques.
