DStretch Version, Petroglyph J21 Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. Four faint outlines of animals are visible. Presumably Neolithic or earlier in origin. [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is a prominent archaeological site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It stands out as one of the largest rock art sites in the UAE. A total of 175 stones with petroglyphs were thoroughly documented and nearly 400 distinct motifs were pinpointed. Each stone bearing a glyph was assigned an ID number and a GPS coordinate for precise location. In a single day, an impressive amount of data was collected: 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points (+/- 1cm). Petroglyphs were identified using Radiance Scaling in Meshlab, materials lighting in Substance Painter, and by adjusting conditions in Sketchfab. Some carvings were nearly invisible when viewed under standard conditions. Detailed drawings were created only when a clear line could be discerned using one of these techniques. Reality Capture and DStretch played crucial roles in the process.
