Human: Natural Version, Petroglyph H12, Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. Geometric shapes, animals, and other symbols are common motifs found throughout southern Arabia, Oman, and the UAE. [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha is a significant archaeological site located on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It stands out as one of the largest rock art sites in the entire UAE region. In addition to its impressive rock art collection, this site also features stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs, and other distinctive features that indicate human occupation dating back to at least the early Holocene period up until the 19th century. A thorough documentation of over 175 stones bearing petroglyphs was conducted, with close to 400 distinct motifs identified. Each rock featuring a glyph was assigned a unique ID number and GPS coordinate for further reference. In just one day, a massive amount of data was collected, including an impressive total of 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 precise GPS points with an accuracy of +/- 1cm.
