DStretch Version: Capturing Petroglyphs with Precision at Khatm Al Melaha. A human figure donning a hat or headdress is depicted in striking detail, likely dating back to the Neolithic era between 5th-4th Millennium BCE [Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. Khatm Al Melaha, situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE, boasts an impressive archaeological site that is one of the largest rock art sites in the country. The site also features stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs and other structures, showcasing occupations from at least early Holocene to the 19th century. Documenting over 175 stones with petroglyphs revealed close to 400 motifs. Each rock bearing a glyph was assigned an ID number and GPS coordinate for meticulous documentation. In a single day, a staggering total of 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points (+/- 1cm) were collected. All data was meticulously processed in Reality Capture and DStretch to ensure accuracy.
