These motifs are common in southern Arabia, Oman, and the UAE, as noted by Fossati 2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman). Khatm Al Melaha is an archaeological site situated on the coast of the Oman Sea near Kalba in Sharjah, UAE. It ranks among the largest rock art sites in the UAE. The site features stone houses, a shell midden, stone tombs and other characteristics that indicate occupations from at least the early Holocene to the 19th century. A total of over 175 stones with petroglyphs were documented and nearly 400 motifs identified. Each rock bearing a glyph was assigned an ID number and GPS coordinate. In one single day, a comprehensive documentation effort yielded 25,455 terrestrial photographs, 5,244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points with +/- 1cm accuracy. Reality Capture and DStretch technologies played a key role in this extensive documentation project.
