Human: Natural Version. Petroglyph G11, Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah. One Syrian Wild Ass takes center stage. Carved into stone, this ancient creature is a testament to Neolithic or earlier artistry. Such motifs are ubiquitous in southern Arabia, Oman, and the UAE, as noted by Fossati [2019 Messages from the Past: Rock Art of the Al-Hajar Mountains (Oman)]. In a remarkable effort, over 175 stones adorned with petroglyphs were meticulously documented, revealing nearly 400 distinct motifs. Each rock bearing a glyph was assigned a unique ID number and GPS coordinate, ensuring precise tracking. On a single day, an astonishing total of 25455 terrestrial photographs, 5244 drone photographs, 44 drone videos, and 182 GPS points with pinpoint accuracy (+/- 1cm) were captured. Reality Capture and DStretch technologies played a crucial role in this endeavor, allowing researchers to capture and analyze the intricate details of these ancient rock carvings.
