Petri Dish Gripper for OpenTrons
prusaprinters

This is a servo-operated gripper intended for picking up and putting down petri dishes using the OpenTrons, which is a reprap-like open source liquid handling robot. This gripper is designed to be low profile to fit on the robot, and also eventually will be able to flip the plates over, pick them up, move them, and remove their lids.

https://media.giphy.com/media/xT1R9G8Y8mCnfAzVJK/giphy.gif

This is all intended to convert the OpenTrons into a colony picking robot, for molecular biology automation.

I used the Emax E08MD micro metal gear digital servo. E08MA, the analog version, would probably work as well.

I also used a variety of plastite screws for putting this together.

3/8" #3-24 thread screws are used for the servo mounting and the attachment of slide1 to slide2.

1/2" 3/32 diameter plastite screws were used for attaching slide2 to armwrist.

a short M2 machine screw was used to attach the servogear to the servo.
Category: Biology
