The company's early years saw it based in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California, with its headquarters and main plant situated in Newark, California. However, by the mid-1980s, manufacturing operations were consolidated at facilities in Denton, TX and Madison, TN. In 1980, Peterbilt also relocated its headquarters and engineering to Denton, Texas. The Nashville plant was closed in 2009, marking a significant shift in the company's operational footprint.
