Peter the Great (bust)
sketchfab
The massive cast-iron statue of Russian Emperor Peter the Great was forged at the behest of Olonets mining chief A.A. Fullon. As the city's founder, the Emperor commands immense respect in this region due to his pivotal role in establishing Petrozavodsk. In 1824, Governor A.I. Rychlewski successfully installed the statue in Petrovsky garden on a stone pedestal that allegedly marked the site of an ancient field church altar dedicated to Peter the Great. Following the 1917 revolution, the bust was removed and didn't resurface until 1964 when it was unveiled at the "Martcialnye Vody" health resort. Today, the statue stands proudly as one of the National Museum of Karelia's (RF) star attractions.
