Based on the Gothic Chess set deigned by Peter Ganine and copyrighted in 1957, used in the Star Trek series, and interpreted by nestra in 2018 and published on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2821647 Most pieces have been resized and had bases modified. cutouts added for mutter (nut) insertion to add weight and some pieces have been “fluffed” up here and there for definition (like moustaches) and/or ease of printing via mesh reduction or number of bodies created during mesh convert to solid. Each piece size and weight is detailed in table pictured above. Each piece has a cutout for a mutter (nut) to be inserted for weighting. 2 different mutter sizes are used for the chess pieces. Each back rank piece has a cutout for an M12 mutter (nut) to be inserted for weighting. The dimensions of the M12 are appx. 21x19x10 mm. The depth of each cutout is appx. 10.1 mm to accommodate the 10 mm depth of the nut, The Pawns have cutouts for an M10 mutter (nut) to be inserted for weighting. The dimensions of the M10 are appx. 19x17x8 mm. The depth of each cutout is appx. 8.4 mm to accommodate the 8mm depth of the nut. The chart below lists the appx. weights of each piece with the nut inserted and glued with a 3mm thick Felt (filz) base for easy movement. Make sure your machine is well calibrated (leveled) for printing the box and you may want to run the bed a little on the hot side to prevent warping on the bottom and/or lid. Not a problem with a well-tuned MK3S+. The box was printed using • Filament PLA Prusament (Galaxy Black) • Infill 30% • Layer Height .20 The chess pieces were printed using • Black PLA Prusament (Galaxy Black) • White PLA Prusament (Galaxy Silver) • Infill 15% • Layer Height .15 Quality Weighting the Pieces and attaching felt • Insert the nut into the base of the piece • Apply some glue (model glue works well) to the base and nut • Put the glued surface lightly on the felt piece, don't press too hard
