Pet Water Fountain Spill Prevention
thingiverse
Our cat water fountain has been replaced with an entirely new one. This particular model of fountain is sold under different brand names, but you'll easily recognize it if you already have one - it's definitely not the same as the Cat-It fountain, and whether or not to try out a Cat-It fountain is entirely up to you. One of our cats thoroughly enjoys playing with this new fountain and spills a considerable amount of water on the floor. Just one day after setting it up in the middle of our living room, there was a noticeable amount of water everywhere. Initially, I built a wall mount for the fountain that slides into it perfectly - that solution worked wonderfully well. However, she (the cat) soon started pulling out the stainless steel component of the fountain, so to prevent this from happening again, I created a top ring to secure the stainless steel plate. Now, she can no longer spill water everywhere. The holder is 3D printed with PLA and 25% infill to keep it flexible while still being strong enough to hold the fountain in place where it belongs. The top ring, on the other hand, is also printed with PLA, but since it's quite thin, an infill isn't really necessary - just ensure that you maintain a high enough perimeter setting to get a solid print. As I've tuned this design specifically for my 4Max printer, please adjust the scale accordingly if your print is either too large or too small. The holes in this model are essential to allow the pump to function properly and prevent vacuum from forming inside the fountain reservoir.
