Pet Monster Valentine - Heartless
thingiverse
To create the heart-dragon figure, I used openSCAD to cut the heart from a low-resolution version of the dragon model in meshlab. The STL file for the dragon with reduced resolution is named 'dragon_lowres_ascii.stl'. I then utilized the heart shape available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6190 to clip the heart from the original dragon model. To ensure a proper fit, I trimmed the bottom of the heart and printed the heart and dragon parts separately. However, due to potential slicing/printing errors, you may need to scale the heart down slightly for better fitting. The print was scaled up 2.77 times, which might have caused some issues. To insert the heart into the dragon's leg, I had to heat the leg slightly and bend it back into place. The final STL files for printing are 'heartless-dragon.stl' and 'dragons-heart.stl', both at the original poster's size. If you have a dual-extruder printer, you might achieve a nicer result using these models. I also included the SCAD file and 'dragon_lowres_ascii.stl' in case anyone wants to improve upon the SCAD design. Note that some polygons couldn't be clipped without sacrificing tail detail, so they were trimmed manually. Don't forget to use the original Thingiverse page (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17204) to showcase your printed dragon version.
