Pet Crate Handle for Cat/Dog Crates
prusaprinters

This is a simple handle for generic metal cat/dog crates! I designed it for my cat to make his trips to the vet a little easier. It's available in two variations: one solid piece, or three separate pieces that can be superglued together if you don't have a large printer or are concerned with it breaking under heavy load.

The handle was modeled in Fusion 360 directly after the original handle that came with my particular pet crate, with only a few minor changes to make it easier to print.

I'm not sure what the maximum amount of weight it can support is, but the glued version seems very strong (it's supported my 14lb cat on many trips to the vet!)

Read the next paragraph if you are concerned about it breaking under a heavy load.

By printing the three separate pieces instead of the single solid piece, you can print the 'handle-left' and 'handle-right' pieces on their side, so that you don't need to clean support material out of them. It is also recommended to print these pieces on their sides for strength- they will most likely break along their layer lines if you don't. You can also try printing with a larger nozzle, increasing your hotend temperature, and printing slower to help fuse the layers together. These pieces fit tightly together, so a little sanding might be required where they join up, depending on your printer's tolerances!

I hope you and your pet enjoy it!

Note: I originally posted this to Thingiverse and it seemed to get a decent number of downloads, so I decided to post it here as well so more pet owners may be able to find it useful!
